This is quite possibly the most photographed abandoned aircraft in the world. In 1973 a United States Navy DC3 aircraft ran out of fuel and crashed on the black beach at Sólheimasandur, in the South Coast of Iceland. Fortunately, everyone aboard the aircraft survived.
Many years later, the remains still lie on the black volcanic sand of the beach, so when Charlotte decided to make the trip to Iceland, it was a location that had to be photographed.

The surreal landscape that surrounds the site, added to the dense black colour of the volcanic sand makes for a science fiction experience.

It’s an amazing place and whether you’re a photographer or simply visiting Iceland, it’s an amazing location to visit.
